  • 20 August 08 Daily forecast status indicators for solar, geomagnetic and ionospheric conditions can be Green (normal), Yellow (moderate activity) or Red (disturbed). The IPS Space Weather page shows current conditions.

  • 11 August 08 IPS has a new ionosonde station on Cocos Island (-12.20 South,96.80 East). These ionograms are now available via the online ionogram viewer in near real time. The ionograms are automatically scaled and are now contributing to the Global real time ionospheric foF2 map. This station data will improve IPS real time Hourly Area high frequency radio Prediction (HAP) charts which cover the Indian Ocean area. These charts are used by IPS customers such as AirServices Australia for HF communication support.    IPS has a new station!

  • 01 August 08 Due to the availability of the real time global foF2 map IPS intends to move the USA and European HAP and LAMP charts to the World HAP charts and cease producing the USA and European maps. Production of the European Recent foF2 plots would also cease. This change is planned for early in October. If this is a concern to you please email office@ips.gov.au    planned site change

  • 21 April 08 IPS has moved the North Atlantic HAP charts to the World HAP charts and ceased producing the North Atlantic map, as the more recent world map covers this area.    change!

  • 25 February 08 Optical telescope offline until further notice.

  • 18 February 08 Due to the approach of a tropical cyclone Learmonth Observatory will be closed over the next few days.    Learmonth observatory closed

  • 14 February 08 The gearbox in the drive of the solar optical telescope has been reapired. The observatory has returned to solar patrol. White light images are acquired hourly, and clouds are rolling in. A white light image will be acquired when seeing permits.    Culgoora on solar patrol

  • 09 February 08 IPS has moved the Asia region HAP charts into the Global HF HAP pages.    HAPS moved

  • 05 February 08 The Culgoora Observatory Razdow telescope will be taken off patrol for 7 days from 06 February to repair a gearbox in the telescopes drive. Radio Spectrograph observations will not be affected.    No optical patrol

  • 31 January 08 A new online tool for selecting HF frequencies is now available. This tool enables the user to enter (via mouseclicks) a series of HF circuits to determine the most suitable frequency set (from 2 to 6 frequencies) for long term (solar cycle, 24 hours) HF operation.    new

  • 24 January 08 The Culgoora Solar patrol telescope has returned to patrol. The fix is only temporary and telescope will need to go off patrol in coming weeks for repair. The fault is in the small gear box of the telescope.

  • 24 January 08 The Culgoora Solar patrol telescope has failed to track the Sun this morning. This fault is currently being investigated.
